Cronulla are edging closer to making their move on discarded Warriors halfback Shaun Johnson, although they might only get their hands on him for one year. Johnson was granted an immediate release from the Auckland-based Warriors on Wednesday, ending an eight-year relationship that promised so much yet delivered so little. Townsend, who played two seasons (2014-15) alongside Johnson at the Warriors, was stumped by the Warriors' decision to move on from Johnson. Warriors chief executive George defended his club's dealings with Johnson, saying the club wanted extra time to gauge market value.
