Shark meat seized a month after great white's head found on Tauranga beach

Pilot Bay, Tauranga, where a juvenile great white shark appears to have been killed to consume. The meat and liver of a great white shark has been seized by the Department of Conservation during a search warrant, a month after a shark’s head was found on a Tauranga beach. “Anyone catching protected species accidentally should report the incident to DOC,” DOC principal compliance officer Dylan Swain said. DOC’s shark expert Clinton Duffy earlier told Stuff it was “very unusual” for a great white shark to be scavenged. “Most people can identify [a great white shark] and they leave them on the beach,” Duffy said.
