Shafee doesn’t want Gopal Sri Ram prosecuting him, applies for recusal - Nation

KUALA LUMPUR: Prominent lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah has filed an application to recuse lead prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram from heading the prosecution team in his money-laundering case involving RM9.5mil. Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Izzat Fauzan said the defence had filed a notice of motion and affidavit to cancel the appointment of Sri Ram. On Sept 13, Shafee, 66, applied for Sri Ram, retired Federal Court judge, to disqualify himself from leading the prosecution team. Shafee is facing four counts of money laundering involving RM9.5mil that he received from Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. The third and fourth charges come under Section 4(1)(a) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activity Act 2001.
