A gang of thieves preying on men seeking compensated dating has been arrested yesterday, which they were responsible for at least 11 online scams with the amount being deceived reached HK$2.8 million. The gang of five, aged between 22 and 57, were arrested for obtaining properties by deception and money laundering. Officers also seized some computers, mobile phones, bank cards and credit cards for further investigation. Compensated dating is a disguised form of prostitution in which male clients pay for companionship and often sex. The gang was said to have posed as prostitutes online to find their victims using dating websites or apps.
