An HKU team is testing sewage samples from Fung Chak House, left. Previous NextJane CheungResidents of more than 700 units at Fung Chak House, Choi Wan (II) Estate, have been mandated to take Covid-19 tests in a bid to find silent carriers after university researchers found the virus in sewage. The result spurred the government to order residents of Fung Chak House to take the virus test by Thursday. Leung said the order for mandatory tests is a precautionary measure against cluster outbreaks and does not mean the virus can be transmitted through sewage pipes. Buildings, Ho added, usually share underground sewage pipes and the risks of transmission through that route cannot be ruled out.
