Severe thunderstorm watch issued for parts of the North IslandROSS GIBLIN/STUFF Thunderstorms are expected across parts of the North Island tonight. Predicted thunderstorms could bring heavy rain, hail, strong winds and small tornados to parts of the North Island, MetService has warned. MetService issued a severe thunderstorm watch on Sunday and said an active front was expected to reach Taranaki late in the afternoon and then cross the North Island during the evening. MetService Thunderstorms will move across the North Island from the afternoon into the evening. Thunderstorms are predicted with strong winds and possible localised tornadoes," it posted.
