Environment Canada has issued severe thunderstorm watches for Calgary, Cochrane, Airdrie, Olds and Sundre on Thursday evening. According to the weather agency, such storms can bring with them the possibility of strong wind gusts, heavy rain and large hail. Environment Canada is warning that strong wind gusts can toss loose objects and cause damage to trees and buildings. The severe thunderstorm watch stretches over much of south and central Alberta, with a weather system covering the area from Whitecourt in the north to Claresholm in the south.
