A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the National Capital Region, according to Environment Canada. Thunderstorms were expected to develop Thursday afternoon as a cold front moves into Ottawa-Gatineau, the weather agency said in a notice posted on its website. "Some of these thunderstorms may become severe this afternoon with damaging winds and large hail as the main threats," the agency said. The watch period is expected to end early Thursday evening.
