Metservice issued heavy rain, wind and thunderstorm warnings and watches for Sunday and Monday. MetService has issued severe thunderstorm and heavy rain warnings for areas along the northeastern coastline, many starting from Sunday afternoon or overnight. It’s prompted a severe thunderstorm watch for Northland, Auckland, Great Barrier Island, the Coromandel Peninsula and Waikato, from 1-7am on Monday. Areas with orange heavy rain warnings are Northland from 3pm on Sunday, Coromandel Peninsula from midnight, Gisborne from Ruatoria northwards from 9am on Monday, and the Bay of Plenty including Rotorua from 3am Monday. Heavy rain watches are in place for Auckland including Great Barrier Island and Tasman west of Motueka, and there’s a strong wind watch for Northland and Auckland, including Great Barrier Island.
