Several Toronto police officers suspended amid ‘very active’ investigation into tow truck corruption case

Several Toronto police officers have been suspended with pay as part of what police describe as a “very active” investigation into corruption in the tow truck industry. “I can confirm that several officers have been suspended with respect to this ongoing investigation,” Toronto police spokesperson Meaghan Gray in an email Wednesday. “Because of this, I will not give an exact number.”Earlier Wednesday, the CBC reported at least five officers had been suspended. No charges have been laid in the murder of Lawrence Taylor Gannon, 28, a longtime Scarborough tow truck driver who worked for several GTA firms. Three Ottawa police officers were arrested in April and charged with breach of trust and accepting secret commissions relating to their city’s tow truck industry.
