With March break delayed for public schools in Ontario some have questioned whether the province’s private schools, which are not bound to decisions made by the Ministry of Education, would follow suit. The Star surveyed 10 private schools in Ontario about whether they would align with the province’s recommendation to delay the term break until April 12 alongside public school boards. Because they operate separately from Ontario’s publicly-funded boards, private schools could have chosen to proceed with March break on schedule. Instead, those schools have transformed the second week into long weekends instead of consecutive time off from classes. Last week, Ontario’s education minister Stephen Lecce announced March break would be delayed in public schools.
