Several passengers were left nursing injuries after a matatu overturned along the Haile Selassie avenue in Nairobi on the morning of Friday, January 30. Bystanders responded to the scene, providing assistance to the injured and taking people out of the overturned matatu. Incidentally, the accident occurred at a time when the Haile Selassie Avenue is fairly busy with hundreds of personal cars and PSVs using the corridor to move in and out of the Central Business District. The Haile Selassie route has undergone repairs in recent years, but as a result, it has become noticeably rougher than other roads in and around the CBD. In a separate incident in January 2025, another accident was reported near the Haile Selassie roundabout, once again highlighting safety concerns along the stretch.
