Sevenoaks train fire: People nearby warned to shut windows with smoke pluming into sky

An enormous column of thick black smoke could be seen pluming into the sky after the train caught ablaze between Sevenoaks and Kent this morning. The fire shut down the Southeastern rail route between Sevenoaks and Orpington, spelling commuting misery for those still heading into the Capital, Kent Live reported. Kent Fire and Rescue Service has urged people in the area to close windows and doors, and to avoid the area if possible. "Crews are working hard to contain a train fire close to Dunton Green, near Rye in the Sevenoaks area," a spokesperson for the fire service said. "People in the area are asked to close windows and doors due to a smoke plume, and to avoid the area if possible."
