Seven Harimau Malaya players banned for one year after Sports Court confirms document fraud

KUALA LUMPUR (March 6): Seven Harimau Malaya players have been banned from official matches for 12 months after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed wrongdoing in the falsification of eligibility documents to play for Malaysia’s national squad Harimau Malaya. In their appeal, FAM accepted the existence of 'institutional shortcomings' and did not dispute that it may bear responsibility in violating the Fifa Disciplinary Code. FAM appeal requested to set aside the decision by the Fifa Appeal Committee and that FAM should be sanctioned with a fine not exceeding 50,000 Swiss francs. The appeals by the players requested to annul the Fifa Appeal Committee decision in its entirety, or in the alternative, issue a proportionate sanction, as the players did not act with intent or negligence. The decision was later upheld by the Fifa Appeal Committee on Nov 3, 2025.
