ABOUT 1,000 supporters of former Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno gathered in front of the high tribunal’s Centennial Building in Manila to protest a ruling that granted the quo warranto petition Solicitor General Jose Calida filed against her that questioned the validity of her appointment. The protesters, members of the Sereno-supportive Coalition for Justice (CFJ), Bayan Muna, Tindig Pilipinas and the Liberal Democratic Council, gathered along Padre Faura St. in Ermita. Present were Ka Obet Castro, Teddy Casiño and Renato Reyes. Members of the Manila Police District (MPD) were deployed along the area of the protest to ensure that the activity remained safe and peaceful for the demonstrators and for the employees of the Supreme Court.
