SEOUL, Dec 14, 2023 (BSS/AFP) - South Korea's military said Thursday itscrambled fighter jets as two Chinese and four Russian military planesentered its air defence zone, an area wider than the country's airspace. But "there was no invasion of airspace", it added, and the South Koreanmilitary identified the planes "before they entered KADIZ, and deployed airforce fighter jets to take tactical measures in preparation forcontingencies". The three allies also reiterated their commitment to freedom of navigation inthe disputed South China Sea. In June, South Korea deployed fighter jets in response to Chinese and Russianwarplanes near its airspace, as the two countries conducted joint air forcepatrols over the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea. Military jets from Moscow and Beijing also entered and exited Seoul's KADIZin November last year, prompting the South to scramble its fighter jets.
