Sensex ends at 39950, Nifty nears 12000 on global cues


Gains in global equity markets, amid easing trade tensions between the U.S. and China, also boosted sentiment. Benchmark 30-share Sensex rose 0.42%, or 165.94 points, to 39950.46, while Nifty 50 gained 0.36%, or 42.90 points, to 11965.60. Traders are awaiting consumer price inflation (CPI) index-based inflation and index of industrial production (IIP) data, which will be released on 12 June. Analysts will eye trade tensions between the US and China, progress of southwest monsoon and the Union Budget for further cues. Sun Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd fell 3% after brokerage firm Goldman Sachs downgraded the stock to sell from neutral and lowered its price target to ₹355 from ₹437 a share.
