Sensex: ETMarkets After Hours: RIL big winner; bad loan candidates tank


Riding high on the news, shares of the Mukesh Ambani-owned company advanced over 3 per cent in Wednesday’s trade.TRAI data showed that Jio emerged the leader in wireless broadband services with 112.55 million customers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 52.25 million, Vodafone with 39.76 million, and Idea Cellular with 24.09 million. The scrip closed 3.30 per cent higher at Rs 1,355 apiece.Shares of Dena Bank surged nearly 15 per cent after reports that the government was considering a plan to merge the public sector lender with the stronger PSU bank. Reports said Canara Bank and Bank of India are top two contenders on the list.Shares of major defaulting companies such as Bhushan Steel Lanco Infratech , Punj Lloyd, ABG Shipyard and Monnet Ispat & Energy plunged up to 10 per cent in Wednesday’s trade after the Reserve Bank of India identified 12 borrowers, which account for 25 per cent of all bank bad loans, for immediate resolution under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).A total of 86 securities hit fresh 52-week high during the session. Balaji Telefilms , Cox & Kings, Emami Infrastructure and Indiabulls Real Estate were some of the prominent names among them.Some 49 securities took a heavy beating and hit fresh 52-week lows on Wednesday. Coal India and Reliance Communication were the top names among them.Shares of Hexaware saw the biggest spurt in open interest at 24.68 per cent followed by Bank of India (21.06) and YES Bank (17.75 per cent).
