Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale, of West Midlands police, is accused of failing to safeguard the documents Joe Giddens/PAA senior police officer will appear in court accused of breaching the Official Secrets Act after sensitive counterterrorism documents were stolen from the boot of his unmarked car in May. Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale was removed from his role as the head of the West Midlands counterterrorism unit after the documents went missing. He will appear at Westminster magistrates’ court on December 7. West Midlands police asked the Metropolitan Police to investigate “due to the nature of the documents lost”. Despite his alleged failure to secure the documents, Mr Beale remained in post for a month, during which time West Midlands officers were called in to work on the Manchester Arena bombing in May and the London Bridge van and knife attack in June.
