DAKAR, Feb 14, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - Senegalese authorities banned a plannedopposition march on Tuesday as the United States joined growing internationalcalls for President Macky Sall to hold an election for a successor. With international pressure on Sall growing, the Aar Sunu Election (Let'sprotect our election) collective of some 40 civil, religious and professionalgroups called for a peaceful rally in Dakar. But it called off the protest until Saturday, saying that Dakar cityauthorities banned the march as it could disrupt traffic. The United States and France reaffirmed calls for Sall to hold the electionas promised. Miller said the United States was "extremely concerned about the situation".
