Senegal’s President Macky Sall fired Tuesday September 12 the head of la Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, few hours after the latter unveiled plans to run for February 2024 presidential elections. The move came few hours after Diao reportedly announced his plans to run for next year presidential election under the banner of “Coalition d’un Sénégal nouveau,” a political movement he has launched. Sall appointed Diao for the position early February 2023 this year. The mayor of the southern city of Kolda is the second key figure of the ruling party to distance himself from President Sall in less than a week. N. Ndiaye reportedly did not like the choice of Ba as he was seeing himself a serious contender and potential candidate for the party.
