Senators trash report blocking them from governor's race

Senators have trashed recommendations by a National Assembly committee to bar them from contesting for governor after their current term ends. Last week, the Constitution Implementation Oversight Committee, in its report to the House recommended senators should not be allowed to vie for gubernatorial positions in 2017 on grounds of conflict of interest. Khalwale, who is said to be eying the Kakamega governorship, asked Kenyans to ignore the report, telling governors to be ready for a major political contest. Zani dismissed the report saying the committee has no jurisdictions to dictate to Kenyans on who should vie for the positions, other than amending the constitution. Murkomen, who is also senate’s Deputy Majority Leader said the report was "hollow talk whose intension is nothing but a talk shop""It has no legal mandate at all.
