Senators threaten to defy Uhuru and Raila, amend BBI bill


While members of the National Assembly appear to agree that Parliament cannot tinker with the bill, senators are pushing to amend the document. Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, a Raila ally who co-chaired the joint parliamentary team that considered the bill, sparked the heated debate after he picked holes in the bill. “How will we look in the face of Kenyans if we take to them a bill that has errors?” Omogeni posed. He cited clause 13 (b) of the bill that seeks to amend Article 97 of the Constitution. “I have gone through Article 257 and there is nowhere that Parliament cannot amend the bill that comes from the people.
