ROME—Normally, Italian lawmakers accused of wrongdoing battle to keep their legal immunity. Matteo Salvini is fighting to be put on trial. Senators from Italy’s anti-immigration League party voted on Monday to strip their own leader, Mr. Salvini, of parliamentary immunity, so that he can stand trial on charges of kidnapping immigrants by holding them aboard a ship when he was a government minister.
