Sen. Marcos to open investigation on ‘child zombies’, seeks to reduce incidence of malnutrition 0 SHARES Share it! Share TweetBy Mario CasayuranAs the 18th Congress opens tomorrow, neophyte Senator Imee R. Marcos sought Saturday a Senate probe into the alarming incidence of Filipino “child zombies” or those with stunted brain growth and who are underweight. The probe would be supported by a resolution Marcos would soon file to review government child-feeding programs. Citing child nutrition research statistics, Marcos said about 30 percent of a Filipino child’s brain would not grow further if malnutrition continues from the time a mother is pregnant until the child reaches the age of five. “The Philippines remains one of nine countries with the highest number of children with stunted growth,” she said.
