Mangaluru: Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management (SCEM) organized a seminar on pulsed laser deposition (PLD) on the occasion of inauguration of coherent-excimer laser on Wednesday.The chief guest Burkhard Fechner and the guest of honour Lalit Kumar inaugurated the excimer laser. He also talked about Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) other applications of excimer lasers.Richard Pinto, former professor, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and IIT Bombay, explained the genesis of PLD. The seminar was organized by Center of Excellence in Nano-science & Technology (CENT) in association with Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management.During the inaugural address, Burkhard Fechner spoke about the historical perspective of lasers and especially, the origin of excimer lasers starting from the early effort in the development of excimer lasers at Lambda Physik, Germany.
