Looking to replace the production of Jose Fernandez, who tragically died in a boating accident in Sept. 2016, the Miami Marlins acquired pitcher Dan Straily from the Cincinnati Reds earlier this week. Straily, 28, posted a 3.76 ERA and a 2.21 strikeouts-to-walks ratio over 191.1 innings last season. Before joining the Reds, Straily owned a career 4.60 ERA. Undeterred, the Marlins surrendered prospects Luis Castillo, Austin Brice, and Isaiah White in exchange for Straily. Widely considered one of the Marlins’ top pitching prospects, the right-hander posted a 2.07 ERA and 5.05 strikeouts-to-walks ratio at Advanced-A in ’16.
