North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was recently in Samjiyon County, which borders China and is known as the birthplace of his late father, the country’s state media said on Thursday (April 4). The North’s state-run television KRT released several still photographs showing Kim looking around construction sites and facilities with North Korean officials. They did not specify the exact date of the visit. There is speculation that Kim could soon make a major announcement, as he used to visit Samjiyon County ahead of making key decisions such as having the inter-Korean summit, Seoul’s Yonhap News Agency said. Last month, North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui told foreign diplomats and journalists in Pyongyang that Kim would soon decide on his position on denuclearisation talks and North Korea’s next steps.
