Sedimented Dhaleshwari needs immediate attention

Tangail BWDB Executive Engineer Sirajul Islam said: “Reports from 2010 to 2019 show that the passage for water to pass from Jamuna to Dhaleshwari rose in height. “Because of sediments blocking the passage, there is normally little water in the river in the dry season. Some locals in Tangail Sadar fear that the Dhaleshwari will cease to exist unless dredging is done very soon. Varieties of lentils and sugarcane are being cultivated on the river shoals.
