Sedated wild elephant from India to be kept in Jamalpur village for 'a week'

A team of experts from India had come to help rescue the elephant, but failed. It walked a few hundred kilometres into Bangladesh to Sirajganj via Gaibandha and Jamalpur and then travelled back to Jamalpur. bdnews24.com’s Jamalpur correspondent said the elephant was tranquilised around 2:30pm on the bank of a river. Officials had earlier said that their plan was to take the elephant to a safari park before setting him free in the Garho hills where he can unite with packs of wild Indian elephants. The elephant may have to be kept at Koyra village in Jamalpur's Sarishabarhi, where it was captured on Thursday, for five to seven more days, former deputy forest conservator Tapan Kumar Dey said.
