Security protection for workers amid threats by unionists : Railways General Manager


NewsThe Railways Department will provide security for employees who have been reportedly threatened by unionists to refrain from reporting to work, its General Manager Dilantha Fernando said. Mr. Fernando said that 28 trains had been in operation this morning with the assistance of the Police, Army, and Retired Drivers. However, he alleged that certain unionists had threatened some employees warning them to refrain from reporting to work. The Railways General Manager said the Department hopes to commence operations of more than 30 trains in the evening by providing security and escorting employees to work. Indika Dodangoda, Chairman of the Locomotive Engine Operators Union said that the strike would continue, despite Railways being declared as an essential service.
