Security forces boost Sabah intel-gathering to thwart threats - Nation

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian security forces are stepping up their intelligence gathering capabilities in Sabah’s east coast as part of preventive measures in the wake of the insurgency in Marawi City in southern Philippines. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said security forces are also increasing their preparedness and surveillance of strategic areas in the east coast. “We must be prepared for any eventuality,” said Musa after chairing an Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) meeting here on Thursday. “I am thankful for the preventive measures being undertaken by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) in strengthening the safety in the east coast,” Musa added. He said security forces will also increase their operations to track down illegal immigrants in various districts, including Sandakan, Tawau and Lahad Datu.
