Second wave of refugees makes land in Langkawi


LANGKAWI: Ninety-nine Myanmar nationals who landed on the coast of Langkawi will face deportation after the movement control order (MCO) is lifted. “All of them are currently being detained at the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) base in Bukit Malut here for investigation. “All the detained Rohingya were rounded up at the beach area before they were sent to the MMEA base in Bukit Malut, ” he added. On April 3,2018, The Star reported that the MMEA had reportedly detained a boat carrying dozens of Rohingya refugees in waters off Langkawi. In the report, about 56 women, men and children on board were being taken to the maritime base in Bukit Malut.
