The Chinese foreign ministry confirmed yesterday that the authorities had arrested a second Canadian, Michael Spavor. The business consultant lives in Dadong, near North Korea, where he worked as a fixer taking tourists across the border. State news outlets said that Mr Spavor, 42, from Calgary, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of “engaging in activities that harm China’s national security”.
