A search was under way at Waikanae Beach in Kāpiti north of Wellington on Thursday evening. A search operation on the Kāpiti Coast has been called off after nothing was found. A police spokeswoman said about 4.26pm Thursday, police received a report from a member of the public that there were two unidentified objects in the water off Waikanae Beach in the Kāpiti Coast district, north of Wellington. There were also search boats present in the sea about 6pm, and police cars, another source said. About 8pm, the police spokeswoman said Coastguard had completed its search of the sea, and police had also completed a shoreline land-based search.
