Workplace injuries are a major problem for blue-collar workers. His startup, StrongArm Technologies, which is based at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, makes wearable protective technology to help industrial workers avoid injury. Its exoskeletons, which sell for $275 to $630, align workers’ bodies to reduce arm fatigue, avoid muscle strains and sprains, and prevent back injuries. Petterson comes from a blue-collar family and knows first-hand the risks of these jobs: His father, a construction worker, had a fatal heart attack in his early-50s on the roof of a job site. That’s a high-risk play, but one that could change the lives of blue-collar workers across America, and help the corporations that employ them reduce the costs of workplace injuries.
