A large scrub fire near the Napier to Taupō highway threatened homes on Sunday. Fire and Emergency were called about the scrub fire at Te Haroto about midday on Sunday, a spokeswoman said. The fire had been threatening properties and it was not certain whether the threat had passed. Helicopters and up to 10 rural and urban fire crews were battling the blaze, which was still not under control by 2.30pm.
