The Gurgaon police claimed to have recovered ₹10.96 lakh cash in scrapped ₹1,000 and ₹500 notes on Tuesday evening as part of its recent crackdown on illegal use of demonetised currency notes. Police had earlier reported recoveries of ₹35 lakh and ₹15 lakh in scrapped notes in two separate incidents. The recovery of ₹10.96 lakh in scrapped notes was made on Tuesday evening from a person in Sanjay Gram area under Civil Lines police. Police said the man told them during questioning that he had planned to exchange the scrapped notes for new currency notes at a bank. Gurgaon police have been cracking down on transportation of old currency notes for the past two days.
