Scottish Power’s Whitelee wind farm will be the site of the company’s planned 50 megawatt battery David Moir/ReutersScottish Power is to spend millions of pounds building a large industrial battery at one of its wind farms. The storage centre, which will be located on its Whitelee site near Glasgow, will be about half the size of a football pitch. The 50 megawatt lithium ion battery can be charged in less than one hour to offer a quick response to the needs of National Grid. Scottish Power, one of the Big Six energy suppliers in the UK, has interests in energy generation and power networks. Whitelee is the largest onshore wind farm in the UK with 215 turbines and a capacity of 539MW.
