The assailants allegedly abducted residents from Monjane and Ulumbi village, near the coastal town of Palma, before beheading them. The authorities have detained more than 300 people, including religious leaders and foreigners, in both Palma and Mocimboa da Praia districts, which are about 95 kilometers apart. Human Rights Watch said the government of President Filipe Nyusi must be more forthcoming about the violence in Cabo Delgado. Police confirmed the attack in Monjane and Ulumbi but did not divulge details.
