Unlike traditional treatments, the new treatment doesn’t rely on antibiotics which is great news, given the rise in antibiotic resistance. Instead, the treatment, which was developed by researchers from the University of Waterloo, is delivered via nanotechnology. Professor Emmanuel Ho, who led the study, said: “As antibiotic resistance continues to develop, people may experience Chlamydia infections that cannot be treated through conventional means, which is causing increasing public health challenges. While it’s unclear when or where the treatment will be offered, it’s a promising start. According to the World Health Organisation, resistance of STIs to antibiotics has increased rapidly in recent years, reducing treatment options.
