Schools and colleges in the Houston area were closed Monday as administrators assessed damage from Tropical Storm Harvey. The district, meanwhile, closed emergency shelters that had been operating at schools at the request of the mayor’s emergency management office due to safety concerns. Many colleges in the area, including Houston Baptist University, Houston Community College, Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, San Jacinto College and Lone Star College, will remain closed through Labor Day.
