A school support worker who used his position of trust to sexually abuse and violate an intellectually disabled student has been jailed for four years and two months. There was a large age gap between MacAran and the victim, who has been diagnosed with mental health issues. Three of the exploitation charges are representative, meaning they took place on a number of occasions, and relate to MacAran sexually violating the victim. The non-representative charge relates to an incident when MacAran took the victim to the house of an associate, who got the victim to perform oral sex on him. When the victim was transferred to a different school, MacAran found employment there.
