School support staff will earn the minimum pay rate of $21.15 an hour after voting in favour of a collective agreement. News of a pay rise to the Living Wage level for school support staff could be greeted with mixed feelings. Under the collective agreement reached with the Ministry of Education last week, school support staff will now earn the minimum of $21.15 an hour - the Living Wage. South Canterbury Living Wage co-spokesperson Julian Maze said being paid less than the Living Wage was a "national disgrace". This was the first offer the ministry had made since the collective agreements covering support staff expired in July.
