School receiving 'preferential treatment' - News Summed Up

School receiving 'preferential treatment'

Central Southland College in Winton has been receiving preferential treatment from the Ministry of Education for many years, another rural school claims. Parsons says Central Southland College school buses have for many years been travelling significant distances outside its transport entitlement zone to pick up children for its school. This was breaching policy and has negatively affected other rural high schools in the area, including Waiau Area School in Tuatapere, he says. Central Southland College principal Grant Dick says the issue is not personal between schools, and it's not about one school having preferential treatment over another. Dick said he had been unaware Central Southland College buses were travelling into the Waiau Area School transport entitlement zone until being informed by Waiau Area School in 2018.
