The hail won't be much bigger than the size of a pea, but could cause damage to tender crops, warns Environment Canada. (Jodie S/Twitter)Small hail pellets and scattered thunderstorms are making their way towards Waterloo region and Wellington county this afternoon, according to an Environment Canada special weather statement. Those unsettled conditions could also produce wind gusts up to 70 km/h and small hail, about the size of a pea — though Environment Canada said some hail could get up to a centimeter in diameter. "Given the cool temperatures and favourable atmospheric conditions, the hail may be abundant and nearly cover the ground at times. The main concern is damage to tender crops and plants."
