Rangi Ruru is one of New Zealand's top achieving NCEA schools, with 100 percent of Year 13 students in 2020 gaining the Level 3 qualification and University Entrance. While NCEA is compulsory for schools to offer at Levels 2 and 3, there are a handful of independent schools removing NCEA Level 1 and replacing it with their own diploma-style courses, while continuing to offer NCEA Levels 2 and 3. Rangi Ruru Girls' School assistant principal of curriculum Juliet Collins says the Christchurch school has chosen to embrace NCEA at all three levels. The school believes in preparing students via NCEA Level 1 through to the critically important Level 2. "It is important for our school to offer the best academic framework, and we believe NCEA Level 1 to be the best scaffold into NCEA Level 2."
