The recorded revenue of Lanka Sathosa outlets saw an increase of 35% last week after the reduction of prices of 27 essential goods by the Ministry of Trade, The Morning learnt. “The average revenue at outlets has increased by 35% since the prices reduced on the 8th,” Lanka Sathosa Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Major Anura Pandithage told The Morning yesterday (14). Major Pandithage added that on the day that government pensioners receive their monthly pension salary (usually falling on the second week of the month), the income at Sathosa outlets increased by 60%. According to Major Pandithage, the elimination of the middleman when purchasing the goods has resulted in benefits to both the consumer and to Lanka Sathosa. Dissanayaka told The Morning that the market would eventually adjust to these reduced prices.
