Data from a European Space Agency (ESA) satellite has confirmed that a 58-storey tower in San Francisco is sinking. The Millennium Tower — completed in 2008 — has been referred to as the "leaning tower of San Francisco." ESA's Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellite confirmed, with data collected between Feb. 22, 2015 and Sept. 20, 2016, that the building was sinking four to five centimetres a year. The satellite was also used to take several measurements of the land shifting in and around San Francisco. This satellite image shows the land displacement in the San Francisco Bay area.
