VANCOUVER—A provincial park and highway just east of Harrison Hot Springs in southwestern British Columbia have been shut down due to an out-of-control wildfire. Coastal Fire Centre Assistant Fire Information Officer Dorthe Jakobsen said Sasquatch Provincial Park and Highway 7 are closed as a public safety precaution due to fire suppression activities in the fight against the 120-hectare High Creek fire. “It’s very difficult terrain and some areas are unsafe.” The highway is closed between Agassiz and Ruby Creek. People in nearby Sasquatch Provincial Park were evacuated from it by noon on Saturday. The park will remain closed until further notice.
